Tribe: On Homecoming and Belonging

Sebastian Junger’s Tribe: On Homecoming and Belonging

“Humans don’t mind hardship, in fact they thrive on it; what they mind is not feeling necessary. Modern society has perfected the art of making people not feel necessary.”

This was a really interesting read recommended to me by my fellow Ancash Peace Corps volunteer, Joe. It is book that focuses a lot on the affects of war and service on people. It discusses interesting psychological points about the affects of war on happiness and PTSD. It even discusses cases of PTSD in Peace Corps volunteers due to the hard adjustment of coming back to the United States after service. It is a short, interesting read.
