Chimamanda Ngozi Adichi’s Dear Ijeawele, or a Feminist Manifesto in Fifteen Suggestions
“The knowledge of cooking does not come pre-installed in a vagina.”
I recommend that every single human on the face of the Earth read this short, powerful book. As a woman from the United States who is currently living in a conservative town in the Andes mountains, I have seen gender inequalities and how they affect different types of people. This book was written as a letter to a friend on how to raise a feminist daughter and it really hit home for me. Some of what Adichie spoke about resonated with me because I can see how I fit the molds of gender that my culture defined for me. I can also see parts where I am proud of my fellow women for being truly themselves. Please, read this!
